"Airplanes"

By Haley Williams and BOB

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky are like shooting stars--------Simile

I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

Yeah --------- Onomatopia
I could use a dream or a genie or a wish
To go back to a place much simpler than this
Cause after all the partyin' and smashin' and crashin'------ Dissonence
And all the glitz and the glam and the fashion-------Dissonece
And all the pandemonium and all the madness------figurative Language
There comes a time where you fade to the blackness
And when you're staring at that phone in your lap
And you hoping but them people never call you back
But that's just how the story unfolds
You get another hand soon after you fold
And when your plans unravel
And they sayin' what would you wish for
If you had one chance
So airplane airplane sorry I'm late ------- Perssonification
I'm on my way so don't close that gate
If I don't make that then I'll switch my flight
And I'll be right back at it by the end of the night

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars

I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

Somebody take me back to the days
Before this was a job, before I got paid--------Flashback
Before it ever mattered what I had in my bank
Yeah back when I was tryin' to get into the subway
And back when I was rappin' for the hell of it--------Hyperbole
But now a days we rappin' to stay relevant
I'm guessin that if we can make some wishes outta airplanes
Then maybe yo maybe I'll go back to the days
Before the politics that we call the rap game---------Connotation
And back when ain't nobody listened to my mix tape
And back before I tried to cover up my slang
But this is for the Cada, what's up Bobby Ray----------- Allusion
So can I get a wish to end the politics
And get back to the music that started this sh-t---------Literal Language
So here I stand and then again I say
I'm hopin' we can make some wishes outta airplanes

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

"I could use a wish right now". BOB takes us to the flashback when he talks about his life before becoming famous, "Before this was a job, before I got paid", "Before it ever mattered what I had in my bank".He uses plenty of rhythm and rhyming in his song. "I could use a dream or a genie or a wish, to go back to a place much simpler than this", "If I don't make that then I'll switch my flight, and I'll be right back at it by the end of the night". The entire song is in lyric formation and is mostly written in the first person. He uses hyperbole in the line, " And back when I was rappin' for the hell of it.", by saying "for the hell of it", he tries to explain that he would want to go back to the days when he use to rap for contentment but now it had become more relevant. He also talks about what it feels to be hopeless and in need of a wish really bad. It made him want to pretend an airplane to be a shooting star and he could make a wish, " Can we pretend that airplane in the night sky like shooting stars ? ". He wishes to go back to the time when his life was simple. All the plans that he made in his life turned out completely different from what he expected." the politics that we call the rap game ", He refers the rap game to the politics that comes with everything these days and everything is fake.

  1. Wow lots of detail in your descriptive paragraph. Good effort. Consider breaking that into smaller paragraphs. Work references directly into your own sentences in your song analysis. Never have two references back to back. No college application assignment. 20/36
